Becoming Catholic

Are you seeking a deeper, richer spiritual life in the Catholic Church? Would you like to be able to join your family at the table of the Eucharist? Do you want to complete the Sacraments of Initiation? Sacred Heart parish invites you to discover the riches of the Catholic faith through the RCIA process.

RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process by which adults become members of the Catholic Church. This includes adults who have never been baptized, as well as those who have been baptized in another Christian tradition. Catholics who would like to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and/or Eucharist or who would like to reconnect with their faith are also welcome to participate in the process.

RCIA is about and for adults who are on a journey of faith, a journey which is unique to each individual.

RCIA gently brings one to a greater awareness of the presence and love of God through:

  • Reflecting on the Sunday Scripture readings and applying them to their lives.
  • Learning about Catholic beliefs, traditions and ways of praying and worshipping God.
  • Participating in liturgical celebrations and service opportunities.
  • Getting to know other Catholics and sharing experiences, questions and insights.
  • Praying with and for each other.

The process of becoming Catholic depends on the grace of God and takes as long as needed. Ideally, the catechumenate lasts a minimum of one complete liturgical year, but participants are generally invited to proceed at a pace which suits them individually.

RCIA Sessions are held twice-a-month on Sundays (except during Advent and Lent when sessions are weekly), from 10:15-12 p.m. in the Parish Center.   Newcomers are welcome at any time of the year. For more information contact Jeannine Leichner, RCIA Coordinator at 408-867-3634 x 524, j.leichner@sacredheartsaratoga.org, or click on the sign up button at the top of the page and Jeannine will contact you.
