Act As Christians In The World

Live the Gospel message by reaching out in charity and justice to the poor and needy in our community and around the world.

The Sacred Heart Parish Act as Christians in the World mission group facilitates and increases personal involvement by parishioners in activities that live the Gospel message by reaching out in charity and justice to the poor and needy in our community and around the world.

Our Catholic social teachings are based on the sacredness of human life and the dignity of each human person. Sacred Heart offers many opportunites to help: Social Justice Committee, Martha’s Kitchen, Sacred Heart Community ServicesRespect for Life, the Special Sunday Outreach Collections and the Thrive! Garden Team
Be a part of this exciting new garden team! The fruits of our labor will be donated to help feed the hungry. Nourish others while nourishing your soul and THRIVE! Requires a 2 hr. a month commitment.
The Poverty Simulation is held annually at Sacred Heart. A powerful immersion, parishioners experience first hand the challenges of  living in day to day poverty.
Sacred Heart provides a variety of social justice educational experiences throughout the year such as the F.I.R.E. Speaker Series. Look for opportunities in our Parish Pulse Newsletter, the Bulletin and the News & Events section of this website.

Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County serves and advocates for families and individuals in need, especially those living in poverty. Rooted in gospel values, they work to create a more just and compassionate community in which people of all cultures and beliefs can participate.

We hope you will consider sharing your time and talents with those in need. Short-term commitments can usually be accomplished in a few hours. Flexible time commitments may be of longer duration, but don’t have specific hours or appointment times. Long-term commitments provide ongoing assistance to help our clients maintain stable lives and achieve self-sufficiency.

Sacred Heart doesn’t have an organized program of volunteering at WVCS.  However, you and your family can volunteer as individuals.  Volunteer opportunities include sorting food and serving clients in our food pantry, and helping to check-in clients at our front desk.

The first step in volunteering is attending a volunteer orientation to learn about WVCS programs and services, volunteer opportunities, and fill out a volunteer application that will help schedule a shift with you. No appointments are needed to come to the orientation.*

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and must enjoy working with all types of people. They must show a genuine concern for our organization, a willingness to work hard, get dirty, and help wherever needed. The ideal volunteer is self‐motivated, mature, friendly, dependable, a team player and reliable.

Volunteers who are 16 or 17 years old will need a Parent Consent form signed by their parent/guardian, but will not need to volunteer with a parent.

*Orientations are held at the WVCS office on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:00 PM, and the 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 10:00 AM
